Who Gets Your Best Energy?
Good morning, friends.
The Moment
After a long day, a familiar name appears on the phone. Someone close to us wants to talk.
We answer, but our patience is thin. We listen halfway, reply too quickly, and hope the conversation will be short.
Earlier, we found the energy to be pleasant with someone we barely knew. Now, someone who matters to us is receiving whatever is left.
One Useful Thought
Being comfortable with someone can make us less careful with them. We trust that they will understand our tiredness, our distracted answers, or our sharp tone.
They may understand. But understanding does not mean our manner has no effect.
We cannot always offer our best energy.
We can notice what we are bringing into a conversation and choose a little more care. Sometimes that means listening properly.
Sometimes it means saying, “I’m tired, but I want to hear you. Can we talk when I can give you my attention?”
One Question Worth Carrying.
"Who in my life has been receiving what is left of me, and what small kindness could I offer them today?"
The One-Degree Turn
Choose one person close to you. In your next conversation, put aside distractions and give them a few minutes of your full attention.
Let your care show in the way you listen.
