Waypoint 001
Launching Boarding Pass 365 turned out to be a journey on itself. What began with one departure date evolved through months of learning, refining, and making thoughtful daily choices to build something with lasting value. This first Waypoint shares the story behind those delays, why they mattered, and why September 8 now marks the beginning of the Morning Watch, another invitation to join a journey of intentional living, personal growth, and meaningful progress, one waypoint, one day, and one choice at a time.
Different Departure. Same Destination.
January 1 was circled on the calendar.
The drafts were written. The website was ready. In my mind, a clear course stretched ahead,
quiet, organized, and certain.
Then life did what it so often does.
It changed the course.
A few days before the planned launch of Boarding Pass 365, I received the call to return to work aboard a ship.
I serve as the chief cook aboard a bulk carrier, responsible for feeding a crew of twenty-two seafarers, three meals a day, from a galley that rarely sleeps.

Long before the first light reaches the horizon, the ovens are warming, the coffee is brewing, and another day of preparation has already begun. The work starts before dawn and doesn’t end until the final plate is washed and the last pot is put away.
Time is always limited. The ship never stops moving.
Every meal demands planning, organization, and discipline. Beyond nourishment, food offers the crew something equally important: a moment of normalcy. A familiar routine in a life spent far from home, surrounded by steel, water, and weather.
This voyage brought me back to winter.
Ice pressed against the hull. Cold crept through the metal walls. Day after day, the ship carved its way through frozen waters, continuing its course regardless of the conditions around it.
And somewhere between breakfast service and the evening cleanup, I realized something.
Boarding Pass 365 didn’t have to wait.
The project didn’t pause. It simply relocated.
That realization quietly became one of the first lessons of this journey.
We spend much of our lives waiting for ideal circumstances before beginning. We tell ourselves we’ll start when work slows down, when life becomes less demanding, when there’s more time, more energy, or fewer distractions.
Life rarely offers perfect conditions. It simply offers today.
Boarding Pass 365 was never meant to be built from perfect circumstances.
It was meant to be built from real life.
From long workdays.
From early mornings.
From ordinary moments.
From successes, mistakes, quiet reflections, and the daily practice of choosing direction over convenience.
Most of what you’ll find throughout these Waypoints wasn’t imagined from a peaceful office or a mountain retreat. It has been shaped in busy galleys, during long voyages, over countless cups of coffee before sunrise, and through the same challenges many of us face every day.
That is why the project exists.
Not to present theories from a distance, but to explore how meaningful change actually happens when life is busy, imperfect, and constantly moving.
The months that followed shaped the tools that would eventually become Boarding Pass 365.

The Morning Watch begins each day with a simple reminder.
The Practice helps turn understanding into habit.
Navigation Charts transform ideas into practical action.
And every journal entry is another honest record from someone who hasn’t arrived at the destination and is still learning to navigate these waters himself.
If these reflections, stories, and practical tools help make your own journey a little clearer, then Boarding Pass 365 is fulfilling its purpose.
When I wrote those first words, the project was ready.
Life wasn’t.
The launch was postponed, and I returned to work to continue sailing.
Looking back now, I’m grateful it happened that way.
Those months weren’t lost.
They became part of the journey.
Today, this Waypoint marks another milestone.
It isn’t the launch of Boarding Pass 365.
It’s the announcement that the journey is finally ready to welcome others aboard.
On September 8, the Morning Watch becomes a daily publication. The following Saturday, The Practice begins its regular weekly schedule, and the full Boarding Pass 365 experience officially begins.
Welcome aboard.
The voyage is about to begin.
Fair winds,
Chef Martin

Takeaway:
Life rarely offers perfect conditions for departure. What matters is choosing a direction and taking the first step. Every journey unfolds one intentional step at a time
