Morning Watch 007.

The Missing Scissors.
Good morning, friends.
The Moment
This morning, I entered the galley and reached for my scissors. They were not where I always keep them.
Someone had used them overnight and hadn't put them back.
It was a small inconvenience, but my reaction was immediate. Before I had even found the scissors, my mind was already building a larger story about disrespect, carelessness, and why people cannot return things to where they belong.
The scissors were missing, but I was the one giving the moment its power.
One Useful Thought
There is often a difference between what happened and the story we create about what happened.
The missing scissors were a fact. Everything my mind added afterward was an interpretation.
Awareness does not mean pretending that something is not irritating. It means creating enough space to recognize the irritation before allowing it to take command of our mood, our words, and the direction of our day.
A minor inconvenience does not need to become a major internal disturbance.
One Question Worth Carrying.
"What small inconvenience are you allowing to carry more emotional weight than it deserves?"
The One-Degree Turn
The next time something interrupts your expectations, describe only the fact:
The scissors are not where I left them.
Pause before adding blame, assumptions, or a story.
Then choose the next useful action.
The problem may still need to be addressed, but it does not have to control you first.
Not every interruption deserves command of your day.
Fair winds,
Chef Martin
